Data protection in research projects

In many research projects in the field of information technology, a consideration of data protection law is unavoidable. At the same time, the topic is often seen as an obstacle rather than an opportunity.

In research we are at home

LexICT has its origins in research. This trend has continued in recent years: our entire team consists of lawyers who have worked in research. This brings us to over 50 person-years of experience. Our main research areas listed below result from research projects carried out on a national and European level. In addition, our staff has published numerous papers on these topics.

Our main areas of research

Medical Data Protection

IT law in the field of medical research (data protection, ethical implications, Medical Device Regulation, etc.)

Security and surveillance

Issues in the conflicting fields of data protection and security interests, especially in the area of surveillance and border control

Industry 4.0

Use of AI, machine learning and other innovative technologies in smart producing (data protection, intellectual property, competition law).

Our services

Proposal-Writing

Support in the submission of project proposals, e.g. by addressing legal aspects, review of the proposal, strategic advice, Section 5 and ethics self-assessments, etc.

Research services

We participate in your research project either as consortium partner or sub-contractor and investigate legal issues from a academic point of view.

Ethics & Compliance

Ethics reports, monitoring, consulting, etc. for a legally compliant implementation of the research project.

Strategic consulting

Having lawyers involved never hurts - but it's even better to avoid getting into legal disputes in the first place. We make sure of that.

Training

We are happy to share our knowledge with project partners - targeted training helps to ensure legally compliant execution of research.

We are happy to support your research project!

Since lexICT - unlike universities and colleges - is not subject to the rules of public administration, we can be very flexible in meeting the requirements for your research project. In particular, depending on the budget, we can be involved in the project either as a permanent consortium partner or as a sub-contractor. In addition to the actual research, we may also provide legal advice to the consortium and thus support a legally compliant execution of the research project.
